Sport and Physical Education at The Globe

At The Globe we feel that all kinds of sport keeps pupils fit, helps to develop a healthy competitive spirit and to build character, all essential parts of Learning For Life.

We strongly encourage all our pupils to compete to the best of their ability, at class, year group and local sports competition level.

Our Physical Education programme is designed to contribute to, support and complement our school’s aims, by developing children’s physical health and emotional well being in a safe, supportive and challenging environment.

At The Globe, we believe that a mix of individual and team, competitive and co-operative sporting activities are most likely to cater for each pupil’s abilities and preferences and so build their self-confidence in order that they are enabled to pursue a healthy lifestyle.

We offer various clubs throughout the year run by school staff and external coaches who come in to take curriculum and after school activities.

In addition, we are in a fortunate position of having an outdoor swimming pool which enables our pupils to have swimming lessons at school during the school year (weather permitting).

Sports Teams

The school has football, netball and rugby teams which take part in locality competitions.  These are managed and run by teachers and support staff from The Globe.

Sports House Teams

The House teams have been organised so that siblings are in the same colour house and thus their individual and group events go towards achieving points for the same Houses. As we are The Globe Primary Academy, Year 4, as part of their Explorers topic in 2015, researched a number of explorers and chose the following ones:

Children are organised into Houses named after Explorers.   The House teams have been organised so that siblings are in the same colour house and thus their individual and group events go towards achieving points for the same Houses. In 2015, Year 4 pupils, as part of their Explorers topic researched a number of explorers and have chosen the following ones:

Sports Days

Each year in the Summer Term we hold a Sports Day, usually late June or early July.  Joint sports days are held for pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and then also for pupils from Year 3 to Year 6.

On Sports Days, children normally take part in a range of multi-skills team events (a ‘round robin’) first and then will participate in a number of competitive running races. Points are awarded for participation in the multi-skills events and for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the competitive races.

The winning house in each sports day is awarded a cup, kindly donated in 2015 by the first Governing Body of The Globe Primary Academy.

Physical Education Support

Support to provide high quality training for teachers and lessons for pupils comes from our partnership with Activ8 for kids.  Each week a teacher provides support for teachers and pupils in lessons.

Locality Sports Competitions

Our locality's competitions are supported and often coordinated by colleagues from The Sir Robert Woodard Academy, Lancing and often held at their site or hosted by other schools in the Lancing locality including The Globe.
